El colectivo de docentes por una educación desde el respeto a los animales Animal Class manifiesta su satisfacción después de que hoy haya sido aprobada la nueva ordenanza de protección animal de Zaragoza en la que se incluye la prohibición de los circos con animales en la ciudad. Zaragoza se suma así a los más de 450 municipios españoles y cuatro comunidades autónomas (Murcia, Baleares, Cataluña y Galicia) que han decidido tomar esta medida
“This is the biggest victory achieved in Zaragoza in terms of respect for animals in childhood,” says Pilar Badía, spokesperson for Aula Animal, an organization that took the opportunity to congratulate all the associations and groups, as well as the political parties that have made this progress possible in the city.
On the other hand, Pilar Badía recalled that “at Aula Animal we have been questioning the use of animals in shows for years, especially when they are aimed at children, as is the case in other types of events and places such as bullfights, zoos, or aquariums.” “Showing an animal deprived of its freedom and subjected to mistreatment can never be positive for children,” she added.
With Zaragoza joining the list of municipalities free of circuses with animals, Spain follows the lead of other European countries that have banned the use of animals in circuses after the official declaration by the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE), which was also endorsed by the General Council of Veterinary Colleges of Spain. Similarly, a growing body of research in the field of psychology warns of a direct link between animal abuse and aggressive behavior in childhood.
