Aula Animal

Yes, we know that it is not common to mention the topic of vegan diet at such young ages, but that does not mean that it cannot be done with good judgment.

Fue el caso de Carmen Pons, maestra de Educación Infantil en el CEIP Montecanal de Zaragoza decidió incluir la pirámide de la alimentación vegana en su clase con alumnos y alumnas de 4 y 5 años.

"Although the students observed and were able to say how the different pyramids were similar and how they differed, I saw no surprise in them, nor curiosity, nor were there any questions or comments from them, except for one girl who said that milk was the star food; to which I replied that she was right, that when we are babies we need our mother's milk just as the calf needs its mother cow's milk.", nos cuenta Carmen.

Una vez realizada su actividad, esta maestra de Educación Infantil plantea varias propuestas de mejora:

  • Leave the pyramids on display in the symbolic play corner so that questions arise from the children at some point.
  • It's important to remember that the family's guidance and the teacher's guidance must go hand in hand, especially at such young ages, and that certain topics are best left untouched to avoid creating conflict for the child. During the early childhood education stage, what the teacher says in class carries significant weight with the students.
  • But I do think it's important to show different ways, forms, or alternatives to any situation that arises, without judging or personalizing, in order to promote critical thinking in our students.
