First-year ESO students from IES Mor de Fuentes wrote a letter to the mayor of Monzón during a tutorial period, requesting an end to all animal performances. As the Municipal Ordinance states, circuses with animals are prohibited. However, the city council continues to allow them.

Estimada alcaldesa de Monzón:
Los alumnos abajo firmantes de 1º B del IES Mor de Fuentes le escribimos para expresarle nuestra preocupación por los animales que hay encerrados en los circos que vienen a Monzón.
Consideramos que los animales no deben ser enjaulados, ni forzados, ni maltratados, ni ser obligados a hacer actividades antinaturales para entretenernos. Los animales deben vivir libres y felices con sus familias en su hábitat natural.
Since they cannot speak for themselves, we are asserting their rights and therefore request that Monzón prohibit shows featuring exotic animals, or any animals for that matter. We also ask society to empathize with them and understand their suffering.
A city like Monzón should try to promote forms of entertainment that do not involve the suffering of others.
We believe that Monzón, as a city, can become an example of respect for animals by banning all shows with animals.
This activity arose spontaneously during a discussion about animal shows in a tutoring session. The Monzón Citizen Coexistence Ordinance, which is mandatory, states:
Article 8.- Prohibited Shows
The following shows are prohibited:
a) Those that constitute a crime
b) Those who incite or promote violence, racism, xenophobia and any other form of
discrimination or that violate human dignity.
c) Those that threaten the protection of children.
d) Those who use animals in shows, fights, popular festivals and other activities,
even if the premises are closed to the general public, that involve cruelty,
mistreatment, suffering, treating in an unnatural way or contrary to their physiological needs and
ethological, their death or the performance of acts that may offend their sensibilities
of the spectators.
