Several animal shelters, led by the children's association Cuarto Hocico, sang Christmas carols and collected funds for animal rights throughout Saturday afternoon. Their mission was to convey a message: "Adopt before you buy."
La Glorieta Sasera de Zaragoza ha sido este sábado el escenario de un acto lúdico-reivindicativo en favor de los animales. El evento ha sido organizado por, entre otros, la protectora de animales Fourth Snout (dirigida por niños), Zarapeludos Protección Animal, Galgo Leku y la Asociación de Protectoras de España. Asimismo ha contado con la colaboración del Ayuntamiento de Zaragoza.
For almost three hours, Christmas carols were sung with lyrics adapted by the children themselves from the CRA Orba, in Muel, – who are also members of the Cuarto Hocico animal shelter – emphasizing the idea that "a dog is not a toy" and that pets should be cared for.
"Some people see animals as toys in shop windows, buy them, and then abandon them when they grow up," explained César Bona, one of the school's teachers. Silvia, a member of the Zarapeludos animal shelter, emphasized the importance of "adopting rather than buying." For this reason, she was among the volunteers selling pet and children's items, the proceeds of which will go toward rescuing animals from the Movera Municipal Animal Protection Center.
Similarly, passersby were able to observe a living nativity scene and approach the information tables, which encouraged the adoption of dogs and cats.
