Este es uno de los pocos libros infantiles que trata el uso de animales para el avance científico y entre ellos es uno de los pocos en los que el autor se pone realmente en el lugar de los animales utilizados en estas prácticas, sin caer en esa falsa posición de “qué contentos estamos de servir para el avance científico”.
The text is a letter from Geno, a rat used in experiments, to his friend Lili, another rat who managed to escape. In his letter, he recounts in the first person the experiments they are subjected to at the University of Mallorca, thus helping the reader develop empathy for these animals who did not choose to be there.
This book offers children an opportunity to develop their values and consider important questions such as whether the ends justify the means. But Gabriel Janer hasn't shied away from even more controversial topics, such as when a student breaks into the lab at night to rescue Geno, when students and animals revolt against this form of exploitation, or even when they create the Reformed Laboratory Animal Liberation Front (RLALF, a clear nod to the real Animal Liberation Front, which does exactly that). In this way, the reader will have to question whether everything that is legal is morally acceptable and whether everything that is morally acceptable is legal.
A wonderful book to give to boys and girls over ten years old.
