A teacher from Aula Animal has designed a different activity as part of the teaching unit dedicated to animals in the subject of Natural Sciences for the first year of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education).
Since textbooks are limited to anatomical and taxonomic explanations, the teacher has asked students to find a documentary about animal behavior, either individually or in groups. They will then present their documentary to the rest of the class. The aim is to introduce students to animal ethology and develop empathy towards all animals.
The four groups from IES Utebo who participated in this activity (a total of 107 students) chose a wide variety of topics, including "the intelligence of the cuttlefish," ants, and the pink dolphin. Some of the documentaries selected addressed not only animal behavior but also animal abuse. Among them were several presentations on circuses with animals, bullfighting, and documentaries such as The Cove and Blackfish.
