► It might be advisable to point out that the intention is not to convince, but rather to invite them to reflect so that they can draw their own conclusions.
◦ Next, we will orally exchange our impressions, provided that you tell us how they received what they saw in it.
◦ For their part, the teacher will guide the discussion, through the specific cases that the founders and volunteers of the Sanctuary tell us about, in order to focus attention on certain aspects.
◦ Concepts and content to be covered: Sanctuary, speciesism/anti-speciesism, conditions in which animals are found in the food industry.
◦ Once definedsanctuaryandspeciesism/antispeciesismWe will try to see what the differences are between a non-human animal in the wild or in a sanctuary, as opposed to a non-human animal on a farm, in a zoo, and in a circus; furthermore, we will try to identify, in each case, what attitude we observe (speciesist or anti-speciesist). From here, we can connect with theAnimal Rightsand with the conceptenvironmentalism–trying to show that an environmentalist position is not necessarily linked to an anti-speciesist one–.
Finally, students will be encouraged to research other sanctuaries and will be informed about how they can contribute to their upkeep. This, in turn, will allow us to introduce other concepts:self-funded, altruism, non-profit.
►Warning:Almost inevitably, after watching the program, students tend to ask about our stance and lifestyle, specifically whether or not we are vegan. If we choose to answer and our response is affirmative, they will most likely have many questions about our diet (especially regarding dairy and eggs), whether plants suffer, and animal testing. Therefore, if we don't intend to address these kinds of situations, we should either reorganize our previous plan or choose another way to convey the same message.
