Recientemente he tenido la ocasión de ver el film “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” que se nombró durante el curso de Educación desde el respeto a los animales. Creo que es una película que puede dar mucho juego a la hora de tratar varios temas, sobre todo para tratar el tema del respeto hacia los animales.
1. Level / Course for which it is designed. Subject with which it is related.
En principio voy a plantear una actividad para alumnos de French for the second year of Baccalaureate, ya que la idea es fomentar un cierto debate para el que es necesario tener un nivel alto de francés. Voy a describirla en castellano para que cualquiera que esté interesado pueda utilizarla como guión o modelo para otras clases de idiomas o cualquier otra asignatura donde se considere que pueda encajar.
2. Objectives, content and evaluation criteria of the activity.
Los objetivos de la actividad, serían no sólo develop oral and written expression and comprehension mediante el visionado de la película en francés con subtítulos, sino también to give this activity a critical meaning and content: hacer que los alumnos expresen su opinión acerca del respeto animal, creando un debate en torno a la experimentación con animales, el trato que reciben en el día a día por nuestra parte, sus propios sentimientos, etc…
Ultimately, the goal is for them to feel empathy towards the character of César, to be able to put themselves in his shoes and understand his feelings, even though he doesn't express them with words (except for the couple of exceptions where we do hear his voice…).
Contents
The contents or “phases” into which we can divide the activity would be the following:
Film viewing.
- Tras el visionado, se procederá a pasar un glossary with vocabulary, expressions, etc.… que haya ido apareciendo en la película, y que puedan ser de utilidad a los alumnos para expresarse y debatir durante el análisis posterior.
- Finalmente, entregaremos a los alumnos una record con los puntos o temas clave a tratar en el debate, que First, they should develop their ideas in writing before sharing them all.. Algunas ideas sobre las que partir podrían ser las siguientes:
- Places where the action takes place:describe los diferentes lugares en los que se desarrolla la acción (aquí, se debería hablar del laboratorio, la casa de Will –el protagonista-, las instalaciones para primates, el bosque de secuoyas).
Compare these places.
What defines each of them? Where does César consider his true home? Do you think he could be happy somewhere else—for example, Will's house? Explain your answer.
Here we could also introduce the comparison of primate facilities with prison facilities (the cells, the bell, the way they are “fed”, how they are treated by the “caretaker”…).
Compare the protagonists' points of view:Will y César.
- How does Will see Cesar? What does he feel towards him, what is his attitude? Does he behave like a father, like his owner…?
- What do you think Cesar is feeling?
At this point, it would be worthwhile to emphasize certain details, such as the scene where Caesar is taken to the redwood forest and encounters a dog also on a leash. Caesar's fingers brush against the collar, and he is aware that he is not on the same level as Will and the other humans around him.
We could actually extend the discussion much further, as there are many scenes worth analyzing. But I think these points, and others that may arise, should be enough to avoid making the activity too long.
Evaluation criteria
Se evaluarán positivamente la stake en el debate, así como las strategies and communicative resourcesutilizados para expresar y dar su opinión en francés oralmente. Los alumnos deberán entregar el trabajo desarrollado por escrito para poder evaluar también la expresión escrita.
3. Resources needed to carry it out.
We will need a classroom where we can have the necessary audiovisual technical resources to project the film (computer, speakers, projector…).
