Casi una treintena de docentes han participado en las diferentes sesiones de las Jornadas de Educación antiespecista que hemos organizado Animal Class a través del sindicato CGT Teaching Zaragoza. En su séptima edición, en esta ocasión hemos tenido la suerte de contar con una variedad de ponentes de diferentes etapas y niveles educativos que han podido contar sus experiencias en las aulas.
Beatriz Cimadevilla, from the University of Oviedo, spoke to us about the Master's theses she supervises at the university, linking artistic expression and empathy towards animals. We were also joined by Clara Paniego, a Philosophy teacher at the Luis Buñuel High School in Zaragoza; Jessica Mcfadden, a primary school teacher at the Juan de Lanuza School in Zaragoza; and Estrella Arias, a specialist teacher in Hearing and Language at the María Montessori Special Education Center (DAT-Madrid Sur). María Manera, a vegan dietitian-nutritionist and mother of two vegan children, also shared her perspective on how this issue is addressed from childhood.
Also participating in the conference were Chema Lera, a primary school teacher specializing in Physical Education and Early Childhood Education and a member of Proda Educación, who has been heavily involved in incorporating respect for animals into the curriculum of the new Lomloe law. Olaia Frería, from the Animal Ethics Foundation, provided theoretical training on speciesism and the arguments that support it.
Undoubtedly, these have been very comprehensive days that have provided teachers with tools to incorporate anti-speciesism into their vision of education.
