Lawrece Anthony, era un activista que ha rescatado elefantes por todo el mundo de la explotación a la que se veían sometidos, que participó en el rescate de los animales del zoo de Bagdad durante la invasión Estadounidense a Irak en 2003 y que ha escrito tres libros, entre los que se encuentra “The Elephant Whisperer”.
El 7 de marzo de 2012 Lawrence Anthony murió. Dos días después una manada de elefantes, guiados por dos matriarcas, aparecieron en los alrededores de su casa. Otras manadas fueron acercándose al lugar para despedirse hasta sumar un total de 31 elefantes.
Witnesses say some of the elephants traveled more than 15 kilometers to visit the site and that the herds walked slowly, in single file and in silence, reminiscent of a funeral procession.
Lawrence's wife, Francoise, was especially moved because the elephants hadn't come near their home for over three years. The elephants remained there without food or water for two days.
